Rocker for Senate Seat

A punk rocker for State Senate?

The Independence Party has named musician Steven Fallon to run for the seat now held by retiring State Sen. James Lack (R-East Northport). Guitarist Fallon is a member of the punk rock group Beauty School Dropouts, which has played at city hotspots such as CBGB's.

Insiders say Fallon's nomination is just a ploy to keep the minor party's options open while Assembs. John Flanagan (R-East Northport), Robert Wertz (R-St. James) and Legis. Andrew Crecca (R-Hauppauge) battle in a September primary for the GOP nomination for Senate. Party sources say Fallon is supposed to record an album in Massachusetts in September and may have to move, allowing the party to pick a replacement.

"If we need him to run, he'd be an excellent, though unusual, candidate," said Frank MacKay, the state and Suffolk Independence Party leader, of the tattooed and leather-clad rocker. "We just have to check the campaign fi! nance laws to see if it's legal to buy him a suit."
